LIBRARY UNIVERSITY OF INNSBRUCK

Task of the design was to create a new library for the university, as well as a remodelling of the forum and the seminar-rooms. The new library will be connected with the existing main-library and conceived as library-centre, which is developed by a central hall. The central bookstorage will be transfered to the basement. Rooms of the institute will be moved to the first floor. Entry, Check out, wardrobe, digitalisation and exhibition will be situated in the basement. The upper floors of the new building are hovering in bent, offset structure over the glass-covered entry-hall and inherit the main functions of the library. The library spaces are arranged around the inner staircase. The closed areas in the floors are filled with the bookshelfes, the open, glassed areas are study-spaces. The annex to the main library is situated in the ground- and first floor. The roof-terrace over the gate-building can be used as an open-air reading area.
