The target was to achieve highest possible quality by designing the existing museum with simple and economical methods possible. The historical structure shall be experienced, at the same time changes should be held naturally and the existing spacial qualities should be maximized. The gallerylike extension and both inner courts, combined with the supply and disposal zones, represent the main area. Both courts are partially opened to basement level, are roofed on top level and hereby form a generous rotary aerial space for the Rudolfinum. Natural lighting as far as the catacombs, visual ranges to all museum-zones and transparency form the qualities of a simple building conception.
