ETABLISSEMENT RONACHER

The historically preserved building Ronacher is reconstructed as an modern music- and vocal-theatre with additional event-spaces. The facade is strictly segmented and has a strong aesthetic appearance with its dominant overhanging parts. Task of the architecture is to improve the basic situation, but to preserve the historical substance and to give the new addition a tasteful and self-conscious character. The new architecture intends to find a closed inner form which is reduced and discreet outside. Transparency, translucence and  background-illumination enable to dematerialize the massive, block-like structure over the stage and the auditorium. By opening the roof along the Himmelpfortgasse the necessary gain of space is achieved; it is drafted as a light, stepped-back glass structure. The roof will serve as space for intermissions during the use for open-air-stages. Rehearsal-, studio- and open-air-stages create a spatial unit, which can also be used in multifunctional ways.
